Diarrhea – This refers to loose, watery or runny stool. It is a very common symptom in dogs and can be an indication of a wide range of problems in your beloved pet. Causes can range from very mild to life threatening issues.

A few of them include

Diet: A sudden change in diet can lead to diarrhea, pets that practice coprophagy (eating the poop of other pets/wildlife) can also cause diarrhea

Intestinal parasites: Your pet can also develope diarrhea from having intestinal parasites which they can also get from ingesting other pets poop or other exposure to these parasites.

Infection: Some bacterial, viral or fungal infections can cause diarrhea.

Foreign body: When your pet ingests foreign materials whch can range from paper towels, grass, toys, strings just to name a few, they can develope inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract  or become obstructed which can lead to diarrhea. Sometimes there may be some blood in the diarrhea as well.

No matter the cause of the diarrhea, it is a known fact that this is a very unpleasant symptom to notice in your beloved pooch. It is a huge inconvenience to your pet and of course you. There is often an urgency to go out frequently to use the bathroom as well as the mess and foul smell it creates. Your pet can quickly become dehydrated, lethargic and if it continues for several days can become very sick.

If the diarrhea does not resolve with a bland diet trial and goes on for more than 2-3 days or if you notice any blood, you should please have your pet checked out by a veterinarian immediately.
